Spectacular North Yorkshire

A narrow dirt path lined with bushes leads toward a distant hill under a blue sky. A wooden signpost on the left points to a public footpath in Cleveland Way.

Boggle Hole

Depending on the tide you can take a stroll along the beach or a walk along the Cleveland Way cliff top path to one of the Yorkshire Coast's hidden gems. Boggle Hole, once a notorious smugglers’ haunt is a small cove at the foot of a wooded valley, with uniquely curved-out hollows, worn away by the action of the sea. The curious name derives from boggle, or goblin, which legend states are said to haunt the slopes of Robin Hood’s Bay.

Whitby Abbey

Situated at the top of the iconic Whitby 199 steps (also known as The Church Stairs and Jacob's Ladder) you will find Whitby Abbey, with stunning gothic ruins to explore and the most spectacular views of the sea and surrounding countryside. Discover stories of saints and poets and find out how this historic site inspired by Bram Stoker's Dracula.

Old Coastguard Station – Robin Hood’s Bay

Situated in the lower bay where the village meets the sea. Here you can discover what makes this part of the Yorkshire Coast so special. Hands-on models and fascinating displays tell the story of the area’s distinctive geology and the impact of the elements, local wildlife and the secret history of smuggling.

Whitby Harbour

Step back in time to a bygone era and immerse yourself in the rich maritime history of Whitby Harbour. Famously where explorer and pioneer Captain Cook served his apprenticeship, this fishing port is still as bustling and vibrant now as it was back then. Enjoy watching the world go by at one of the many eateries, stroll along the piers taking in the fresh sea air, or take a boat trip on the replica of the Endeavour listening to sea shanties and stories of the sea.

Scarborough Open Air Theatre

Scarborough Open Air Theatre is a stunning venue for live music and comedy in Yorkshire. Tom Jones and Simple Minds (to name but a few), have all recently performed here.

Goathland

The charming village of Goathland (perhaps best known for being featured as Aidensfield in the ITV programme Heartbeat) has a great range of artisan shops and traditional pubs. A must-see is the railway station which became Hogsmeade Station in the first Harry Potter film.
